Where is Hogben Park and what is it like?

Hogben Park is located on Railway Parade, Kogarah, near the corner of Railway Parade and Harrow Road. It is a short walk from Kogarah Train Station and a number of local bus routes.

The park includes open grass areas, a children’s playground, basketball court, table tennis table, toilet facilities and jacaranda trees.

What is a Landscape Master Plan?

A Landscape Master Plan is a long-term plan for a park. It sets a vision for how the park could look, feel and function in the future. It can guide future upgrades, funding decisions and the order in which improvements may happen.
    The plan may consider:
    • park layout and open space
    • play and recreation areas
    • trees, shade and planting
    • safety and lighting
    • paths and accessibility
    • seating, toilets and other facilities
    • public art and local character
    • how the park connects with nearby streets and places.
A Landscape Master Plan does not mean all works will happen at once. It helps Council plan future improvements over time.

What is the difference between a master plan and a landscape master plan?

A master plan is a long-term plan that guides how a broader area may grow and change over time. It can look at things like housing, jobs, transport, infrastructure, public spaces and community facilities.

A landscape master plan is more focused. It looks at a specific park, reserve or public space and sets out ideas for how that place could be improved over time. This may include access, safety, lighting, paths, trees, seating, play, recreation and spaces for people to gather.

    How did we get here?

The current Landscape Master Plan for Hogben Park was created in 2010. Since then, Kogarah has changed significantly. More people now live and work nearby, demand for open space has increased, and community expectations for parks and recreation have evolved.

Because of these changes, Council is preparing a new Landscape Master Plan that will replace the 2010 Plan. The updated Plan will ensure Hogben Park reflects current community needs, environmental conditions and the long‑term vision for the area.

You can read the Hogben Park Landscape Master Plan 2010 in the Documents section of this page.

What else has happened at Hogben Park recently?

Council recently consulted the community on a proposal to install lighting at Hogben Park, focused on supporting safer and more accessible use of the basketball court area.
