Safe space for LGBTQIA+ community
Empowerment helps to promote inclusion and contribute to better health outcome for LGBTQIA+ communities.
Council can support the community by creating/maintaining a safe space for LGBTQIA+ folks. Generally, safety is one of the main concern of many LGBTQIA+ people when they are accessing services, or engage in any activities in the community. In order to ensure LGBTQIA+ to feel safe and welcome, council plays a significant role in making clear their venues are inclusive, (eg. It can be through symbols like pride flag/welcome here project) while openly hosting events are promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion. This can also be done by reviewing the current policies and guidelines, gathering feedback from LGBTQ members in the community, seek improvement for the diversity framework. Furthermore, council can also serves as advocate, to conduct survey, for instance, what does safe space mean for LGBTQIA+ identifying individuals? By doing so to actively listen to the voice of the community.
