Empowering new migrants and environmental advocates

  • Pre-Employment skills – interview skills etc (women whose visa status doesn’t provide eligibility for Centrelink services or TAFE courses, eg 309 visa)

  • Tours of Council Chambers as an adjunct to library tour for new migrants

  • In some other countries, local government doesn’t exist or citizens don’t have opportunity to interact with government - there is a need to de-mystify local government’s role and ways in which residents may communicate with Council

  • Open days for new migrants but also longer term residents – facilitates transparency and makes Council a more welcoming place

  • Environmental advisory group
