Carss Bush Park Playspace Upgrade Stage 2
Following the completion of Stage 1 in October 2024, we're now designing Stage 2 to create an even better play experience for our community. The design will integrate with Stage 1 while adding new play opportunities
📌 We are sharing our design for the Carss Bush Park Stage 2 upgrade
🛝 A new centrepiece sea creature will be added to the park, as well as more inclusive play elements and a chill-out area
💬 We invited our community to view and vote on their preferred playspace centrepiece.

Update: April 2026
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback and took part in the community vote. Our team is now reviewing all submissions, and we will update this page with next steps shortly.
What's happened so far: Stage 1
Stage 1 of the Carss Bush Park Playspace Upgrade was designed in 2022/23 and construction was completed in October 2024.
This first stage brought significant improvements to the park, including:
- Expanded play areas with new equipment suitable for different ages and abilities
- Better connections throughout the playspace to help everyone move around easily
- New seating and supporting infrastructure for families to relax and enjoy the park

What's planned for Stage 2?
Stage 2 will introduce exciting new elements while maintaining our commitment to inclusive, accessible play for everyone. Here's what we're planning:
A Sea Creature Feature
The centrepiece of Stage 2 will be a sea creature inspired by the coastal location of Carss Bush Park.
We've narrowed it down to two sea creature options, and we want the community to choose which one becomes the signature element of the new playspace.
Help us decide between a Blue Ring Octopus or Fish Amongst Seaweed.
We're proposing to create either a Blue Ring Octopus or Fish Amongst Seaweed playground equipment. Option A: Blue Ringed Octopus
Although known for their venom, we promise this octopus doesn't bite.
Designed and colourised to match a blue ringed octopus, this eight-legged adventure space offers plenty of ways to play, including climbing net, slide, lookouts, and balance challenges.
It provides imaginative play, creative storytelling, and high vertical challenge, making it the stronger choice for a signature destination feature.

Option B: Fish Amongst Seaweed
Option B provides a broader variety of climbing routes, nets, pods, and accessible play events, delivering more distributed play opportunities and a slightly more balanced mix across age groups.
It excels in play diversity, continuous movement, and high-capacity flow across multiple structures.
What else is coming with Stage 2?
Stage 2 will feature more inclusive play elements, including a new wheelchair accessible swing, an accessible flying fox, durable rubber soft fall, and connected pathways to move safely in and around the playground.
We're also creating a space where teenagers and parents can relax, socialise, and enjoy the park environment.
This area will feature contemporary design elements to create modern, welcoming gathering spots.
The Owl sculpture, created by Greek sculptor Takis Kozokos, will be reinstalled in the playspace.
Owl Sculpture by Takis Kozokos, due to be reinstated at Carss Bush ParkTakis Kozokos was Georges River Council's first Artist in Residence and is known for his public artworks in our area, including the Australia and Lemnos memorial statue in Kogarah Town Square.
Have Your Say: Community Vote
We asked the community to help us choose the sea creature that would become the signature feature of Stage 2. Community members were invited to choose between:
Option A - Blue Ring Octopus centrepiece
Option B - Fish Amongst Seaweed centrepiece
When casting their vote, participants were asked a few quick questions:
- Which option do you prefer?
- Why did you choose this option? We'd love to hear what appeals to you.
- Are there particular colours or colour schemes you would like to see?
- Is there anything we've missed?
The poll closed on 31 March. Thank you to everyone who took part and shared their ideas.
Colouring-in Activity
We invited children and young people to share their ideas for the colours of the new centrepiece. To help spark their creativity, we provided two colouring‑in sheets so they could show us the colour palette they thought would work best.
