As educators, carers and overseers of our younger generations, we all play a role in involving the minds of tomorrow in the planning and decision making of today.

Across November, we are consulting with our community, partners and stakeholders on our Community Strategic Plan, or as we call it, The Plan. This document serves as the voice of our communities and stakeholders, reflecting your ideas and aspirations for our local area.

This is an opportunity to review the Plan since it was endorsed in 2022, and we're seeking feedback on refreshing our Community Vision Statement and revising the six key pillars.

We know that our youth community have a unique and distinct perspective on local matters. In August of this year, our Youth Survey told us:

Affordable housing was the biggest long-term concern

More recreational facilities would make Georges River better for young people

Better access to public transport was a top priority for the local area

Help us involve youth and children on how we plan for the next 10 years. From environment, to economy, to education and infrastructure, we’re keen to understand your student's priorities and incorporate them in our long-term planning.

So we can continue to capture feedback from youth and children, we’ve created some tools and activities to help bring our long-term planning into your lessons and discussions:

The Plan Student Engagement ActivityGuided activity, recommended for younger audiences. This activity and resources will ask students to think about their local area, long term plans and goals, and what they might like to see in the future.

The Plan Slide DeckGuided activity, suitable for most audiences. This activity will guide students through what The Plan is and ask for key words, themes, and ideas for each of the six pillars.

Hard Copy SurveySelf-paced activity, suitable for older audiences. This activity is a hard copy version of The Plan survey. It will capture key words and ideas from students based on our Community Vision Statement and six key pillars.

In addition to these resources, we are also running a Youth Workshop on 21 November 2024. The aim of the workshop is to:

Meet and collaborate with like-minded peers

Work with Council to help us review our plans, refresh our vision, and revise the long-term goals

Have your ideas and feedback influence planning and decision making for the next 10 years

Please visit our Youth Workshop project page for further information and registration instructions.

We look forward to hearing from your School or Centre and reviewing the ideas put forward by your students. If you have any questions, please get in touch with Matthew Tilbrook, Community Engagement Lead - yoursay@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au
