Updates to the Sports Advisory Committee

The Council has formally established the Sports Advisory Committee as an official Advisory Committee. A review of the trial committee recommended updates to the Terms of Reference including:

  • The Committee may be called upon for any community engagement or consultation related to sports and open spaces, with consultation in the decision-making process being optional and at the Council's discretion.
  • Meetings will be scheduled consistently on a Thursday each quarter.
  • Dissemination of information is now part of the members' responsibilities.
  • The voting members will be restructured to include one nominated Councillor as Chairperson and two nominated Councillors, with one elected as the alternate Chairperson (with proxies).
  • Members missing two meetings without an apology will cease to be members of the committee. Following this, an Expression of Interest (EOI) will be released to find a suitable replacement for the vacant position.

To enhance cross-code engagement, the following operational improvements are suggested:

  • The meeting room allocated for the Committee will open 30 minutes prior to the meeting to encourage informal discussions.
  • Each agenda will include one item specifically for discussion to further facilitate engagement.

The updated Terms of Reference for the Sports Advisory Committee are to be noted by the Council and endorsed by the Committee at its first meeting.

We will be calling for new representatives in the coming month
