Council is planning one upgraded playspace at Pole Depot Park, Penshurst.
Council is planning the future of the playspace at Pole Depot Park, Penshurst.
The park currently has two smaller playspace areas, located on different sides of the park. Council is proposing to create one upgraded playspace. This would replace the two smaller local playspaces with a single improved play area.
We are asking the community to:
- Choose a preferred location for the upgraded playspace
- Tell us what types of play activities and features should be considered
There are two possible locations:
- Option A: Forest Road side
- Option B: St Georges Road side
The site not selected for the upgraded playspace will remain public park space. We will plan to create a landscaped area that supports informal exercise, seating and social use.

About Pole Depot Park
Pole Depot Park is a local park in Penshurst. It currently has two smaller playspace areas on different sides of the park, separated by a Council-owned community facility.
One of the playspaces was decommissioned because of safety concerns and the age of its equipment.
The operating playspace on the Forest Road side includes play equipment, a table tennis table, shade, seating and an amenity block.
What is proposed?
Council is proposing to replace the two smaller playspaces with one upgraded playspace. Bringing the playground into one space would allow Council to provide:
- A wider range of play opportunities
- More inclusive play
- Equipment for children of different ages and abilities
- Improved connections, seating and shade
- A stronger local destination for play
The upgraded playspace would be located on either the Forest Road side or the St Georges Road side. The site not selected for the playspace would remain public park space and become a landscaped area for exercise, sitting, meeting and relaxing.
What are we asking you?
This consultation focuses on two questions:
Where should the upgraded playspace be located?
Choose between:
- Option A: Forest Road side
- Option B: St Georges Road side
We also want to understand why you prefer that location.
What should the upgraded playspace support
Tell us about the types of play and supporting features that should be prioritised. These may include:
- Active play, such as swinging, sliding and climbing
- Challenging play, such as balancing and testing coordination
- Sensory play
- Nature play
- Creative and imaginative play
- Inclusive and accessible play
- Seating and shade
What will happen to the other site?
The site not selected for the upgraded playspace will remain public park space. Council plans to create a landscaped area that could combines:
- Simple outdoor fitness equipment
- Places to sit, meet and relax
- Trees and planting
- Informal movement and recreation opportunities
- Connections through the park
The purpose is to create a flexible area that can be used by people of different ages for light exercise, rest and social activities. The final layout will respond to the site condition, existing trees, access, and detailed design requirements.
