Update: February 2026

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback during the consultation period. Council adopted the name Sharyn Cullis Boardwalk in November 2025.

We are seeking your feedback on a proposal to officially name the new boardwalk being constructed in Morshead Drive Reserve, Hurstville Grove, as the 'Sharyn Cullis Boardwalk'.

Why we're proposing 'Sharyn Cullis Boardwalk'

Dr. Sharyn Cullis was a passionate environmentalist, educator, and researcher who lived in Oatley from 1985 until her passing in 2022. She made extraordinary contributions to protecting the Georges River and its surrounding environment throughout her life.

The proposed 'Sharyn Cullis Boardwalk' location reflects Dr. Cullis's deep connection to the Georges River area. You can learn more about Dr. Sharyn Cullis and her connection and contributions to the Georges River Area through our Historical Markers web page.

About the location

The boardwalk is currently being rebuilt as part of Council's capital works program. The reserve is located in Hurstville Grove between the east and west sections of Morshead Drive.

The Purpose of Place Naming

Place naming is the formal process of giving an official name to a public space, road, or geographical feature. Names are chosen according to Georges River Council's Place Naming Policy for their connection to the unique history and culture of our area. Names for roads, parks and places must be endorsed by Council and approved by the NSW Geographical Names Board before becoming official. Whereas names for Council buildings and facilities are endorsed and approved by Council.

How our community can be involved

The naming proposal for the boardwalk was on public exhibition from 26 September 2025 until 26 October 2025. During this time, the proposal was available for a set number of days for everyone to view and provide feedback.
