We're upgrading the sporting facility at Olds Park to make it safer, more accessible, and better for everyone who uses the park.

October update

Thank you to everyone who viewed our final design and completed our survey. We are currently working on the delivery timeline and will share this information soon.

Who responded to our survey

We received 81 responses, and the site designs were viewed over 500 times. Your feedback shows that over 50% of people live locally within walking distance of the park. Most visitors come every few days to weekly, usually in the early morning or late afternoon.

How people use the park

The most popular activities at the park according to our survey were:

  • Exercising and walking for recreation
  • Visiting the library
  • Playing or watching sport

What people value most

When asked what they value about the park, people mentioned:

  • The library
  • Open space
  • Community connections
  • Trees and nature
  • Sporting facilities

Word cloud of what people valued most about Olds Park

Future visits

Most people said they would visit about the same amount once the new sporting facility opens. However, almost 30% said they would visit more often at night once the facility is complete.

Next steps

Our project team are continuing to review feedback we received. When we have an update about the next stage of the project, we will share it on this page.

About This Project

Olds Park in Penshurst is a much-loved local sporting and social hub. The park features sporting fields, netball and basketball courts, a skatepark, and a Library branch.

The existing sporting and public amenity buildings overlook the central playing field and serves the many sporting groups and community members who use the park.

We're now ready to upgrade this facility as part of our 2025-2026 Capital Works program. To keep our community informed we are sharing the final design that will guide the delivery of the new facility. Read on to learn more about the facility and view the renders.

What we are planning

The existing facility will be demolished with the new facility being roughly the same location and size. Some of the key improvements include:

Four universally accessible changerooms - designed for people of all abilities
Better lighting throughout the facility precinct
Improved toilets that are accessible to everyone
Enhanced club facilities for sporting groups
Upgraded spectator areas for families and supporters

Who can use the Facility

Sporting Club Access

  • Registered sporting clubs that use Olds Park Oval
  • Teams and players for training sessions and competitions
  • Sporting club officials and volunteers for sporting meetings and events

Public Community Access

  • All park visitors can use public toilets during park opening hours
  • Families and spectators watching sporting events
  • People living with a disability - all facilities designed for universal access

Our focus

This new facility represents new and exciting features coming to Olds Park. Our objectives include:

Making the facility safer for all users
Improving accessibility so everyone can use the facilities
Creating inclusive spaces for women, girls, and gender diverse community members
Better lighting and security for evening and night use
Improving the overall park experience for visitors

How we got here

This upgrade is guided by the Olds Park Master Plan, which provides the long-term vision for improvements across the entire park. The master plan ensures all upgrades work together to create a cohesive, well-planned facility that serves our community's needs. Community feedback has also shaped our final design. Over the past few years, we've worked closely with:

Sporting groups who regularly use the facility
Community organisations active at Olds Park
Our wider community through consultation on Olds Park Master Planning
State government agencies to ensure best practice design

How will the new building improve safety and accessibility?

We've worked closely our funding partner and their requirements for creating safe, inclusive spaces in community sports facilities. Feedback from our sporting clubs and organisations has also guided what safety improvements will best support women and girls who play sports.

All toilets and changerooms are designed as universal facilities, meaning they can be used safely and comfortably by people of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds. Change rooms have also been designed to provide more privacy and security.

In line with Council's Disability Inclusion Action Plan, the building will include ramps and an elevator, making all areas accessible for people with disabilities, mobility aids, or parents with prams. There will be increased capacity for spectators, families and supporters, with disability access and terrace seating. CCTV and better lighting throughout the building mean people can see and be seen, creating a safer environment for everyone.

Why is the existing location being used for a new facility instead of choosing another spot in the park?

We're keeping the facility in its current location based on the 2023 Olds Park Master Plan Amendment. This plan shows this spot is the best choice for the upgrade. By staying in the same place, we can reuse existing services like water pipes and electrical connections.

It also means less disruption to other parts of the park during construction - we won't need to dig up new areas or install services elsewhere. The current location works well with the library and car park area that people already know and use. The building also has great views over the main sports field, which is perfect for spectators watching games.

How can our community be involved?

We're sharing our plans so you can see what's coming to Olds Park. Across September and October 2025, we also asked how these improvements might change the way our community uses the park.
