Have Your Say on the Future of Olds Park Skatepark
Consultation has concluded
Update
Georges River Council is thrilled to officially open the Olds Park Recreational and Sporting Hardscape precinct on Saturday 17 February.
Work was focused on the creation of a new active recreation zone featuring a modern skate park and consolidated five netball courts (two with multi-sport capacity). This project is funded by the NSW Government in association with Georges River Council under the Greater Cities Sport Facility Fund.
The new precinct features:
- Flowy street style skate park.
- Shaded seating areas.
- Three netball courts featuring senior and junior goalposts.
- Two netball/basketball multi courts.
- Bike and skateboard repair stations.
The new state of the art precinct brings the 2020 Master Plan for the site to life, which focused on providing sporting facilities suitable for people of all fitness levels including women/girls and people with disabilities. It also meets best practice and ongoing community demand.
June 2023 Update
Council has engaged a contractor to complete the construction of the Olds Park Skate Park and Netball Courts Precinct. This work will include the demolition of the existing facilities and the creation of a new active recreation featuring a modern skatepark and multi-sport courts.
All works will abide by the NSW EPA regulations within the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 199 to limit impacts to the surroundings environment and residents. Work is expected to commence early June 2023 and will be undertaken Monday to Friday between 7.00am and 6.00pm and on Saturdays between 8.00am and 1.00pm (where required).
There will be no public access to the current netball courts and skatepark areas during this time and pedestrian detours around the work zone will be in place. Council would like to thank the community for their patience during the construction of this key public facility.

May Update
Thanks to everyone who completed our Skatepark Concept Design Survey. Your feedback is now with our project team and this space will be updated with new details on the project shortly.
April Update
Georges River Council and Convic have prepared two initial concept designs for the Olds Park Skatepark which builds upon the Olds Park Master Plan and subsequent consultation taken in December and January. You can view the concepts in greater detail using the Photos tab on this page.
Concept 1: Flowy Design
The flowy street design is a mixed transition and street layout consisting of unique concrete and steel obstacles arranged in a linear run. Paying homage to the history of the existing Olds Park Skatepark, steel ramps have been incorporated to offer unique contemporary riding elements. Key features include a flow style bowl, hipped banks and rails, kicker to kicker and fundamental transition obstacles.
Concept 2:Street Plaza
The street plaza design is a contemporary plaza facility consisting of features found in the urban environment. Steel grates have been laid across the site to creates gaps between riding elements. The layout has open spacing between elements allowing clear movement between obstacles for plaza flow and real street feeling. Key features include a mini ramp style bowl, down rails, planter ledges, down gaps and fundamental street obstacles.
You can view the concepts in greater detail using the Photos tab on this page.
These initial concept designs are indicative only and subject to further development and final costings. Your feedback will assist us in forming a final concept design that will be released later this year. Whilst the plans have been presented as two quite different options, the final plan may, subject to community input, be a combination of both options.
The concept designs have been created to represent the surrounding sporting precinct context of Olds Park and reflect the history of the existing skatepark. The feedback you provide will be used in updating the design to a highly resolved and informed design outcome that is unique to this site and the Georges River City Council area.

Background (December 2021)
Olds Park is a 9.5 hectare recreational and sporting precinct that fronts onto Forest Road, Penshurst. The park is a sporting hub used for regional competitions including:
Australian Rules Football | |
Athletics | |
Cycling | |
Baseball | |
Cricket | |
Netball | |
Soccer |
A popular recreational activity and longstanding staple of Olds Park is the skatepark. Council is looking to vastly improve the skating facility available and the way it integrates with the surrounding hardscape features.
The 2017 Georges River Council Youth Survey identified that 30% of respondents had used the skate facility and many of those respondents also stated that it should be replaced with a safe, modern and more challenging skate park.
This was further highlighted in the Georges River Council’s Open Space, Recreation and Community Facilities Strategy 2019-2036 which identified the current provision of skate facilities within the LGA was ‘very limited’ and recommended the construction of a new skate facility to improve active recreation opportunities and youth participation.
How to be involved
We are asking our community about their current riding and skating preferences, how they currently engage with the skatepark facility at Olds Park, and what they might like to see included in future upgrades. We're inviting you to complete a survey that will be used to provide initial direction to the Design Consultants to progress concept designs.
If you would like to take part in our survey, you can do so by:
