Trees

All trees are valuable and should be preserved, including on footpaths. With the clearing of blocks, the last tall trees in many suburbs are on the footpaths. They set the mood for the suburbs identity.

I agree that our trees need to be protected as they are habitat and provide food for wildlife, give us shade, beauty and fragrance, stop erosion and lower pollution. Trees benefit our well being as shown by studies. It is so sad to see people cutting down tall old healthy trees. Too many have been removed and we need to protect what's left. For example instead of felling the huge paperbarks in Lorraine street Peakhurst Heights council could have put in new pipes. Instead of hacking down trees for development we need protections to develop around them as much as we can. Without the trees it would be barren. Plant out more please... especially along main walkways such as Railway Parade near Mortdale they've all been cut down. Please plant shade trees to give respite in summer heat.
