Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2022 - 2026
April Update
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our online Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2022-2026 survey and workshops last year. We're committed to creating an inclusive community for all people who live, work and visit our area. This means ensuring all people with a disability and diverse needs have every opportunity to fully participate in and enjoy the social, business and community life of Georges River.
The draft DIAP (2022-2026) is a result of extensive consultation with people with disability, carers, local service providers, peak organisations, our Access and Inclusion Reference Group and with Council staff over the last year. We partnered with Accessible Arts to use all the feedback we have received to develop a DIAP that outlines practical steps we will take to create a more inclusive community.
The DIAP (2022-2026) sets out key actions that focus on four key areas nominated by people with disability as being of primary importance to them in creating an inclusive community:
Developing positive community attitudes and behaviours
Creating liveable communities
Supporting access to meaningful employment
Improving access to services through better systems and processes. |

Why does Council need a DIAP?
The Disability Inclusion Act requires Council to develop a Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP). 1 in 5 people in Australia live with some form of disability, so it is important to have a DIAP that guides our strategic direction for making our services, facilities, activities and information more accessible.
Why is Council updating the DIAP?
Council developed the current DIAP in 2017. As this Plan is coming to the end of its timeframe, we need to update the DIAP and make sure it captures and reflects the community’s priorities.
What will the DIAP do?
The DIAP will guide Council in creating a more inclusive and accessible environment that supports people with disability to be involved in community life.
Who is responsible for the DIAP?
The DIAP will be developed and delivered across all areas of Council.
