What is dementia?

    Dementia describes symptoms that are caused by disorders affecting the brain. It is not one specific disease. 

    Dementia affects thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday tasks. It interferes with the person’s normal social or working life. 

    There are over 100 different conditions that can cause dementia. The most common types being Alzheimer’s Disease and Vascular Dementia.  

    What does it mean to be Dementia Friendly?

    A Dementia Friendly organisation, person, or community group makes changes to better meet the needs of people living with dementia. They work to address the stigma, isolation, and discrimination of dementia.

    Dementia Australia provides information, education and services for Australians living with dementia. They advocate for positive change and support vital research.
