We're seeking a young filmmaker to produce a short video to be launched during National Child Protection Week 2024!

National Child Protection Week is an annual initiative led by The National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN). The objective is to raise awareness of child abuse and neglect based on the principle that 'protecting children is everyone's business'. This year, National Child Protection Week will run from Sunday 1 September to Saturday 7 September.

Georges River Council is seeking to engage young, amateur filmmaker/s aged 18 to 30 to produce short videos that will be used by Council as an awareness raising and promotional piece related to child safety. The videos will be launched as part of Council's National Child Protection Week campaign.

Please note, this is a paid opportunity and interested filmmakers or organisations will be required to submit a budget proposal for consideration.

Filming will take place at key sites in the Georges River Council local government area (LGA), including the Media Lab within Hurstville Library and Service Centre, Council's Early Learning Services, and parks and green spaces.

Project scope:

  • Interview style video productions including:
    • A full version up to 5 minutes in length that showcases young people (members of Council's Youth Advisory Committee), early learning educators and families, and Council's Executive Team. All will speak about what child safety means to them and how child safe approaches are implemented throughout Council services and facilities.
    • An edit up to 2 minutes in length that features only the Executive Team who will speak about leadership and child safety in the Local Government setting.
    • An edit up to 30 seconds in length that features only the early learning educators and families who will promote Council's Early Learning Services.
  • Full filming, production and editing of the above pieces of work.

Project timeline:

  • Pre-production meeting with Council officers - June 2024
  • Filming undertaken - June/July 2024
  • Draft edits provided to Council by Thursday 1 August 2024
  • Feedback on edits provided by Council by Friday 9 August 2024
  • Final videos provided to Council by 5pm Friday 23 August 2024.

Please note, all raw footage to remain the property of Georges River Council and provided at the end of the project.
