Bushcare Volunteer Program Check-in
Bushcare is a hands-on way to care for local bushland and contribute to a greener, more resilient Georges River.
Our Bushcare volunteers play a vital role in protecting native plants and wildlife. They help improve the health and biodiversity of bushland reserves across the Georges River area.
By joining a Bushcare group, volunteers work with Council’s Bushcare team and like‑minded community members. Activities include seed collection, weed removal and planting. It is a great way to make a positive environmental impact. It also lets people enjoy the outdoors and connect with others.
Why we are checking in
Last year, Council made updates to the scheduling and delivery of the Bushcare volunteer program in response to valuable volunteer feedback. Council also created more opportunities for those who were previously unable to participate due to the timetable.
As part of our ongoing commitment to continually improve the program, we regularly review how Bushcare is delivered. This helps us better meet the needs of our community. This includes creating opportunities for new groups, supporting existing volunteers, and encouraging greater participation across all sites.
From 1 July 2026, we are proposing a few key updates:
Gannons Park rotation: Gannons Park and Lower Gannons Park will come together as one group that moves around the whole park.
New volunteer sites : New groups are proposed at Edith Bay, Carss Bush Park and Shipwrights Bay to give the community more ways to get involved.
Boorea frequency: Boorea will move from every two months to monthly sessions.
Jinna Road removal: Jinna Road will be removed from the program due to ongoing safety concerns.
Oatley Pleasure Grounds and Moore Reserve: These groups will move from Sunday sessions to a Tuesday–Saturday timeslot to better suit when volunteers are available.
Where changes have been made, Council’s Bushcare Team and contractors will continue to look after these sites, helping to maintain and build on the hard work of our volunteers.
What we are asking now
With these proposed changes, we are inviting current Bushcare volunteers, and people who are interested in joining but haven’t yet found the right group, to complete a short survey.
Your feedback will help us refine session times, group locations and site priorities so that Bushcare remains safe, consistent and focused.
How can I have my say?
The survey is open for feedback from 8 May 2026 to 22 May 2026.
To take part, please complete the online survey below or return a hard copy submission.
