June 2026 update

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Bushcare Volunteer Program Check-in. We asked current and future volunteers to share feedback on session times, locations and site priorities. From 1 July 2026, Council will make updates to the Bushcare Volunteer Program.

These include new groups at Edith Bay, Carss Bush Park and Shipwrights Bay, changes to some session times and locations, and the removal of Jinna Road from the program due to ongoing safety concerns.


What is changing

From 1 July 2026, Council will make several updates to the Bushcare Volunteer Program.
The changes include:
  • Gannons Park and Lower Gannons Park will become one group that moves around the whole park. This group will meet on Tuesday afternoons
  • New Bushcare groups will start at:
    • Edith Bay
    • Carss Bush Park
    • Shipwrights Bay
  • Groups at Lugarno Parade, Freeman Avenue, Peakhurst Foreshore and Cedar Street will be moved to the new sites due to low attendance
  • Marine Drive and Gungah Bay will become a roving group
  • Boorea will move from every two months to monthly sessions
  • Jinna Road will be removed from the program due to ongoing safety concerns
  • Oatley Pleasure Grounds and Moore Reserve will move to Saturday afternoons
  • Depot Road will move to once every four weeks, at the same timeslot


What happens next

Council will update the Bushcare program from 1 July 2026.

About Bushcare in Georges River

Our Bushcare volunteers play a vital role in protecting native plants and wildlife. They help improve the health and biodiversity of bushland reserves across the Georges River area.

By joining a Bushcare group, volunteers work with Council’s Bushcare team and like‑minded community members. Activities include seed collection, weed removal and planting. It is a great way to make a positive environmental impact. It also lets people enjoy the outdoors and connect with others.
