April 2024 Update
Georges River Council has engaged a contractor to construct the new Merv Lynch Reserve playground. The project will include replacement of aging equipment to better align the playground to a district level facility.
During this time, the existing playground and immediate surrounds will be closed to the public. Pedestrian detours will be in place to provide access to the amenities building and dog park. Construction vehicles will utilise an Edgbaston Road temporary work zone to access the site for the duration of the project.
During the works, contractors will abide by the NSW EPA regulations within the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 to limit environmental and social impacts to the surrounding area. During this time, the existing playground will be closed to the public, however alternative access to the existing dog park will be provided.
November 2023 Update
Council wishes to advise that the detailed design for Merv Lynch Reserve Playground has been completed. This project looks to upgrade the existing playspace, identifying and capitalising on opportunities to maximise play outcomes that better align to a district-level category facility.
The final design of the playspace and surrounds has been developed in conjunction with community feedback to provide a cohesive vision focused on a best practice approach to playground and inclusive design principles. The design rationalises existing elements within the park whilst prioritising and ensuring seamless integration of new elements.
Council is now completing the construction documentation for the project, enabling works to commence on site before the end of the financial year.
Project overview
Detailed design and construction expanding the playspace scope to meet the district-level requirements of Merv Lynch Reserve.
This work involves the investigation of existing site conditions, the development of designs meeting community expectation and improving the play experience, along with construction.
Consultation purpose
We have previously heard from you, asking the community about what they might like to see in the upgrade. Having listened, we’d like to check in with you to ensure we’re on the right track before progressing to finalisation of the concept design (that will be released later this year).
A design consultant is currently developing the concept for this playspace, utilising this initial feedback to inform the design response for an outcome that is unique to the site and reflective of the Georges River Council area.
We’re also organising an on-site drop-in session for those of the community that may have missed the previous consultation to provide any further feedback.
How to be involved
This consultation period has closed however updates will be posted on this page until the completion of the project.
