Update on the Local Strategic Planning Statement
Project Update, 11 March 2020
Following a two staged intensive community engagement program over 2019 the Georges River Local Strategic Planning Statement 2040 (Georges River LSPS 2040) has received a letter of support from the Greater Sydney Commission and has been made.
Georges River LSPS 2040 will guide land use planning and the delivery of significant infrastructure for the LGA over the next 20 years.
The Draft Local Strategic Planning statement (LSPS 2040) and supporting strategies were on public exhibition from 26 June 2019 to 7 August 2019for review and comment.
Thank you to all those who were involved in the Stage 1 and Stage 2 workshops, attended a drop-in session and/or made a submission. Your contributions have resulted in a robust document that reflects what you as a community want for the future of Georges River.
The Local Strategic Planning Statement Team has compiled the feedback from all the workshops and drop-in sessions which is published in the LSPS Engagement Stage 2 overview report and made available on this website. The feedback has now been analysed and amendments made to the LSPS where required.
A Health Check assessment by the State Government took place in October. A report on the submissions to the LSPS was presented to the Environment and Planning Committee (E&P) of Council on 14 October, and then to the Council Meeting on 28 October which adopted the LSPS. The LSPS has been sent to the Greater Sydney Commission for Final Assurance.
As background, earlier this year through a series of workshops and surveys, over 500 residents and business operators told Council what they wanted for the future growth and development of the Georges River area.
As a result of this input, Council has developed a Draft LSPS 2040 as required by the NSW Government. This Statement will inform local land use planning for the next 20 years.
While the LSPS 2040 will be the over-arching document presenting the desired land use future for the Local Government Area (LGA), the Georges River Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2020 and Georges River Development Control Plan (DCP) 2020 will set out the specific zonings and local planning controls that will inform, guide and control development in the LGA.
There will be further opportunity for feedback and community engagement during the public exhibition of the Local Environmental Plan 2020 and the Development Control Plan 2020 in the first half of 2020.

Georges River Council is currently developing its strategic approach to the future management of growth to 2040, maintaining the special characteristics that contribute to local identity and aligned to the community's vision for land use. It will result in a document called a Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS).
Local and major commercial centres are an important part of land use planning. They are places where you can shop, work and find essential services like doctors, hair dressers and banks.
This survey invites you to tell us about your current preferences, the types of shops, services and facilities you would like to access, and the features you would like most to see in the centres that you use in the future.
The survey will take around 2 - 5 minutes to complete.
Completion of the survey is completely voluntary and your individual responses will be confidential.
If you have any questions about the survey, please call Council on 9330 6400, 24 hours, 7 days per week or email mail@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au
Please complete the survey by Sunday 17 March 2019.
Thank you for your input.
