Sports Grounds Amenities and Lighting Survey
Update: April 2026
The survey is now closed. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey during the consultation period. Our team is currently reviewing submissions. Your feedback will help guide how amenities are used, and the future planning of lighting upgrades across our sports fields.
Sports fields and facilities are busier than ever across Georges River.
We want everyone to have fair access to sports grounds. We are focusing on improving how existing grounds are used so they meet the needs of our residents.
We invited our community to complete a short survey on sports grounds amenities and lighting. This survey asked the community to share views on how amenities such as canteens, change rooms and storage are accessed and shared.
It also asked how sports field lighting upgrades should be prioritised across the local government area.
We heard from all types of park users, such as players, families, volunteers, spectators, nearby residents and other park users.
How we got here
Over recent years, Council and sports groups raised concerns about lighting quality, access to facilities and growing demand for sports grounds.
This led to formal notices of motion and requests for review. Council completed a sports field lighting audit and set money aside in a four-year Capital Works Program.
Council officers worked with the Sports Advisory Committee to draft principles for both amenities sharing and lighting priorities. Now we want input from everyone before making final plans.
What are sports amenities and lighting?
Council follows the Community Infrastructure Needs Assessment and Acquisition Area Strategy (CINAAAS) to get the best community use from our facilities, including sports grounds.
Sports amenities and storage rooms are buildings or spaces next to fields that help people play and train.
Amenities include canteens, toilets, change rooms, referee rooms or medical rooms.
Storage rooms hold gear like training equipment or line-marking supplies.
Sports lighting lets people use fields safely after dark.
Training level lighting is lower, and used for team practice, skills sessions or casual play.
Competition level lighting are brighter for matches, referees and crowds.
You can learn more about CINAAAS, amenities and lighting in our FAQ.
What we asked
We asked for feedback to help finalise our principles for sharing amenities and choosing lighting upgrades. The survey asked you to share your ideas and thoughts.
You were asked questions about:
How you use sports grounds (player, coach, parent, resident etc).
Which grounds you visit most.
Whether amenities should be shared by more than one group.
Ideas for hiring change rooms and toilets, sharing canteens by season, or giving storage to one main club.
What should matter most for lighting upgrades (like number of users, types of sports, age of current lights, or spreading upgrades across suburbs).
Any other ideas for the future.
We are now reviewing responses and will use the findings to guide future planning for sports ground amenities and lighting. Your feedback will be provided to our Sports Advisory Committee and Council.
How can I have my say?
