Public Exhibition of the Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026-2030

Update June 2026

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback during the consultation period. The draft Disability inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2026-2030 was adopted at the Council Meeting on Monday 22 June. The DIAP will be submitted to the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) by 30 June 2026.

While on public exhibition, Council asked key stakeholders for feedback. This included the Physical Disability Council of NSW, people with lived experience from the Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee, local disability networks and the broader community.

Based on the feedback received, we made the following changes to the Action Plan:

• Changes to improve document transparency and clarity, including:
  • Outlining how people with lived experience of disability co-designed actions
  • Adding more detail on the reporting framework of the DIAP
  • Rearranging sections to improve document flow

• Changes to strengthen Council’s commitment, including:
  • Incorporating reference to the Human Rights Model of Disability
  • Amending language to affirm outcomes
  • Adding more information about action implementation and measures
  • Adding a column to the action plan tables with intended outcomes for each action

What is the Disability Inclusion Action Plan?

The draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2026–2030 is Council’s four‑year plan to keep making Georges River a more inclusive, accessible and welcoming community.

It sets out clear actions to help remove barriers so that people with disability, their carers and families can participate fully in community life and feel a sense of belonging.

This DIAP is based on the social model of disability. This means it recognises that people are excluded not because of their disability, but because of barriers in attitudes, systems, policies and the built environment.

By improving access and inclusion, the DIAP supports a community that is more welcoming and supportive for everyone.

What we asked

The draft DIAP 2026–2030 was on public exhibition from 29 April to 27 May 2026.

During this time, Council asked for feedback from community members on any part of the draft plan, including the actions, focus areas and how clearly the information is presented.

After public exhibition, the DIAP was designed following best practice accessible design principles.
