Public Exhibition: Draft GRC Management of Feral and Infant Companion Animals Policy 2024
Update - 25 March 2024
Council at its meeting held on 25 March 2024 endorsed the draft Management of Feral and Infant Companion Animals Policy (2024) for the purpose of public exhibition for a minimum period of 60 days.
Georges River Council is committed promoting responsible animal ownership for the welfare of companion animals and native species. Council invites you to read the latest draft of this policy and submit your feedback using the form below.
The consultation period for the Draft Feral and Infant Companion Animals has been extended until August 3, 2024 to allow for wider consultation with the community.
Background
The draft Policy has an overall purpose to outline ‘humane assessment criteria to be applied in the management of Feral or Infant Companion Animals, which have been lawfully seized, abandoned or surrendered’. The Policy provides options for the early release of Infant Companion Animals to the RSPCA or to an animal rehoming organisation as an alternative to euthanasia.
Submissions closed Friday 27 November 2020.
Following closure of the public exhibition, the submissions were collated and reported to Council in early 2021, to assist with a final decision on the policy.
