Oatley Park Security Upgrades
Oatley Park is one of our local area's most loved and recognised parks.
The park features sporting fields, play equipment and picnic areas, bush and walking tracks, and access to Jewfish Bay Baths and Lime Kiln Bay Wetlands. As a designated wildlife protection area, Oatley Park is home to native animals and plants that need our protection.
Recently, we have received reports of vandalism and damage to trees in the park. To help address these issues, we are proposing to install security gates that will better manage park access after closing time. We want to share this information with you and work together to improve park safety.
What are we proposing?
We are proposing to install two new security gates further into the park with signage showing opening and closing times. We will also install sandstone blocks around the sporting field car park to improve safety and manage vehicle access.
What will change?
The two new gates (shown in blue in the above map) will open at 6:00am and close 7:30pm daily.
The main gate at Oatley Park Avenue currently opens at 6:00am and closes for vehicles at 'dusk'. Under our proposal, this main gate will open at 6:00am and close at midnight.
This means you will still be able to access the sporting oval throughout the evening.
The main park entrance at Douglas Haig Street will also be updated to open at 6:00am and close at 7:30pm.
All signage across the park will be reviewed and updated to show these times when the gates are installed.
Will I still be able to use the sporting fields in the evening?
The main gate at Oatley Park Avenue will remain open until midnight. This means you can continue to access the sporting fields after 7:30pm without any change to your current arrangements. The main gate opens at 6:00am and closes at midnight every day, giving you full evening access to the sporting areas of the park.
Why are we installing these gates?
The earlier closure will help to reduce vandalism and damage to trees in parts of the park. This earlier closing time will also help protect the bushland and wildlife areas in the park. Many native animals are most active at dusk and during the evening.
How can I report vandalism?
If you see vandalism or damage in the park, there are several ways you can report it.
You can use Council's Log It or Fix It online reporting tool, which is available on our website 24 hours a day. You can also contact Council directly during business hours by calling 9330 6400.
For emergencies, always call 000, or for non-urgent police matters, you can call the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.
