Development of a camp management plan for Oatley's Grey-headed Flying-foxes

Georges River Council has received funding from the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment to prepare a camp management plan for the vulnerable Grey-headed Flying-foxes located within Myles Dunphy Reserve, Oatley.

The Grey-headed Flying-fox is an important pollinator for many of our local plants and has seen large losses in population recently related to extreme heat events. One particular heat event in January 2020 saw many flying-foxes perish from heat exhaustion, most of them juveniles.

Council has engaged a consultant to gather baseline data which will be used to inform the development of a Flying Fox Camp Management Plan.

We want to hear from you!

This short questionnaire is designed so that Council can obtain an early understanding of how the community views the flying-foxes and what is wanted from the management plan. Fill in our short questionnaire below to help shape the camp management plan for the grey-headed flying foxes.

The Questionnaire is now closed, having received 37 responses which were archived and considered in the preparation of the Camp Management Plan. Council thanks the community for their invaluable input.

Next Project Steps:

  1. December 2020 - January 2021: Responses archived and sent to the consultant for inclusion in the Draft Camp Management Plan
  2. February to May 2021: Draft Camp Management Plan developed by consultant
  3. August 2021: Council at its meeting on 23 August 2021 endorsed the draft Oatley Flying-fox Camp Management Plan 2021 (the draft Plan) to be placed on public exhibition for a 28 day period.
  4. October 2021: Public exhibition closes, responses archived and a report addressing comments prepared to be presented to Council for formal adoption of the Oatley Flying-fox Camp Management Plan 2021.
