Hurstville Museum & Gallery’s forthcoming exhibition Makers and Manufacturers will highlight the untold community stories of the industrial history of St George region.

It will explore a range of perspectives on the industrial and manufacturing history of the St George region from the early 19th century through to the mid-20th century, shedding light on little known aspects of the economic and business history of the region. From the earliest primary industries and farming through to industrial development, businesses and factories during the 1950s and 60s, this exhibition will bring together objects, documents, photographs, and oral histories. The exhibition will present an opportunity to acknowledge individuals and the diverse industrial and manufacturing history of the area, which has contributed significantly to the development and social history of the St George region.

Hurstville Museum & Gallery is seeking information and is keen to hear from those in the community who may have owned, worked for or managed a business, industry or factory in the St George area, from the late 19th century through to the 1970s.

Did you, members of your family, or friends work in a local industry, with a manufacturer or small business and have a story to tell about your working life or experiences? Do you have photographs, objects or documents related to your working life?

We are looking for residents to share their stories about working for local manufacturers and in local industries and welcome hearing from you.

If you would like to share your stories, we would encourage you to:
