Consultation has concluded

We are seeking participants that reflect diverse experiences to sit for a portrait and record their story for a Living Libraries display as part of Harmony Week in 2022.

Harmony Week is celebrated in March and celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone.

Georges River Libraries is hosting a series of events to celebrate Harmony week over the course of March. The Living Libraries portraits and stories will be displayed in the Georges River Libraries and an in person ‘Living Libraries’ event where the community can 'borrow' real people instead of books will be hosted in the Clive James Library Kogarah. This is an opportunity to challenge stereotypes.

How to Participate

Write a short paragraph that demonstrates a lived experience that challenges stigmas and stereotypes. Click here or use the form below to submit your entry for the expression of interest.

This story will be audio recorded and a portrait of yourself* will be photographed. These portraits will be printed as large format posters and displayed in the Georges River Libraries. The recordings will be accessed through a QR code on the printed poster as well as the Georges River Libraries YouTube channel.

*If you are uncomfortable taking a photograph of your face, we will be able to work with you to creatively respond through 'object' portraits. If you are participating in the portraits and stories project you are not expected to participate in the in-person event.

For further information please email library@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au with the subject line ‘Harmony Week EOI’ or call (02) 9330 9527.
