English Conversation Classes run at Hurstville and Clive James Kogarah Libraries and are a vital resource for CALD communities seeking to learn English. The English Conversation Classes provide a welcoming and relaxed opportunity for adults to practice their English-speaking skills. Volunteers will work with a group of learners to lead discussions on a variety of topics, from current events to popular culture. We are seeking passionate volunteers who want to make a positive difference to the vibrant Georges River community.

Who should submit an EOI?

We're looking for volunteers who are:

  • Positive, patient and understanding.
  • Good at listening and responding.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Enthusiastic about learning new cultures.
  • Keen to connect with community and make a difference.

We are looking for community members that have a passion for helping others and love talking to people to volunteer as English Conversation Class teachers or assistants in Hurstville Library.

Prior teaching experience or confidence in working with multicultural communities is valuable, but not essential. Council will provide you with different resources and some training to support you in the delivery of classes. Volunteers are expected to be able to make a time commitment of approximately 1.5 hours per week for 8 weeks during the school term.
