I strongly support a marker for local area nurse, Edith Blake. I am very proud of my aunt's dedication, service and sacrifice.

Public health workers are in the spotlight at present. Edith Blake's story demonstrates the selfless attitude of nurses in difficult times. I hope her contribution to Australian history is not forgotten and inspires young people to consider their place in society. An historical marker would give context to Edith Blake Reserve.

Edith’s story is a tragic and heroic one. A local who gave her service and her life to the wounded, her country and the empire. A reserve named in Edith’s honour is a wonderful idea to keep her story and memory alive and one I think the local community and council should support.

As a nurse she provided support to numerous Australian and allied soldiers and has the sad distinction of being the only Australian nurse killed in action in WW1.

Edith was a local nurse who volunteered to serve her nation during the First World War. Sadly she gave her life during that terrible War, but her story could provide an inspiration for so many in our current times. A marker honouring Edith could let her story become widely known.
