Update

At the Council meeting on 25 March 2024, Council adopted the Resident Parking Permit Scheme Policy (CCL014-24). Following a review of community feedback, no amendments to the clauses of Policy were required.

Following the adoption of this Policy, Council officers will be working to implement improvements to customer experience that will be provided by the Policy which include:

  • introducing a new permit exclusively for community organisations and individual support workers to better facilitate at-home care and support for residences within APPAs;
  • providing flexible 12 month permits that can be applied for across the whole year, instead for the currently fixed expiry date of 30 June each year.
  • introducing a streamlined process for renewals and payments from 1 July 2024, replacing the current process where permit holders need to submit a new application and provide full documentation to prove residence every 12 months.
  • introducing discretion for Council to limit parking permits based on a residence’s off-street parking, should the number of parking permits that are applied for exceed the number of on-street parking spaces available.
  • enabling applications for parking permits to be online with permits issued electronically in the event the enabling technology is adopted in future.

Background

Council is seeking community feedback on the Georges River Council’s Draft Resident Parking Permit Scheme Policy. This Policy aims to communicate the conditions surrounding parking permits to community members and provide a governance framework for the scheme. While the Draft Resident Parking Permit Scheme Policy largely formalises existing operations, some minor operational improvements are being introduced to enhance the operation of the Resident Parking Scheme, particularly the experience of customers in applying for permits which ultimately reflect the commitments enshrined under Council’s Customer Experience Charter to:

  • Ensure information, resources and services are accessible to all; and
  • Actively strive to continuously improve based on customer feedback.

Examples of proposed improvements to the current operation of the Resident Parking Scheme include:

  • A new permit exclusively for community organisations and individual support workers to better facilitate at-home care and support for residences within existing Approved Parking Permit Areas.
  • Removing fixed expiry dates of 30 June and instead retaining flexible terms which end 12-months from the date of application on all future permits approved from 1 July 2024; and
  • Introducing a renewal process from 1 July 2024.
