Georges River Council is seeking community feedback regarding the Draft Public Art Policy from 20 January to 16 February 2020.

Public art elevates the visual profile of our places and provides insight into our cultural life and community values. Georges River Council aspires for public art to be an everyday experience that contributes to the vibrancy of the local area’s public spaces and landscapes for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.

The Draft Public Art Policy provides a framework for the acquisition, assessment, development and management of public art in the Georges River area in accordance with community needs and industry best practice. The Draft Public Art Policy puts forward four key principles to help guide the development of public art in the area:

  • Reflect and empower our local community,
  • Enhance the liveability and distinctiveness of our LGA,
  • Create key partnerships and collaborations to produce high quality public art, and
  • Support artists and recognise the depth and breadth of contemporary public art practice.

The policy can be viewed at:

  • Georges River Council Hurstville Service Centre, corner MacMahon and Dora Streets, Hurstville, between 8.30am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Georges River Council Kogarah Library and Service Centre, Kogarah Town Square, Belgrave Street, Kogarah, between 8.30am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Hurstville Library, during library opening hours.

The closing date for responses to reach Council is 16 February 2020.
