Update

Thanks to everyone who attended our recent DIAP Community Consultation sessions. It was great to connect with you and your feedback will contribute to Council shaping the DIAP 2022-2026.

For those who did not get an opportunity to attend one of our sessions, we are planning to hold more in the near future. For updates, please check in with our Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Jennie Dang, by email jdang@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au or phone 9330 6261.

What is the Disability Inclusion Action Plan

The Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) will guide Council in creating a more inclusive and accessible environment that supports people with disability to be involved in community life.

Why does Council need a DIAP?

The Disability Inclusion Act requires Council to develop a Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP). 1 in 5 people in Australia live with some form of disability, so it is important to have a DIAP that guides our strategic direction for making our services, facilities, activities and information more accessible.

What are the Community Consultation Sessions for?

We are checking in with the community to make sure that the DIAP is still in line with the issues that are important to people with disability and their carers. We would like to listen to your needs and concerns and get your help to build a plan to fill in the community’s gaps.

These session are small focus groups (up to twelve people per session) and we will ask you to provide feedback on different areas of the DIAP (employment, attitudes & behaviour, systems & processes, liveable communities).

Upon confirming your booking, you will be provided five with questions and we encourage you to think about your response in readiness for the consultation.

Please note: these questions are different to the DIAP survey.

How do I register?

A note for to organisations and service providers: although we'd love to connect with as many people as possible, spots for each session are limited. We kindly ask members registering on behalf of an organisation or service provider elect a single representative to attend. Our full consultation schedule is provided below:
