The Georges River Localability Awards for People with Disability 2023 celebrate people with disability in Georges River who are doing outstanding work in advocacy, leadership, empowering others, and in their community.

The awards promote an inclusive, diverse, healthy and socially connected community as outlined in our Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-2026 and Social Justice Charter.

Who can be nominated?

To be eligible to receive an award, nominees are required to be a Georges River resident with disability.

Nominations are invited from anyone wanting to recognise a person with disability.

You can nominate yourself for an award or another person who you know is eligible. Please ensure the individual has agreed to be nominated before submitting the nomination. Members of Georges River Council's Access and Inclusion Reference Group are not eligible for nomination.

Award categories

  • Achievement Award - recognises:
    • someone who has achieved a significant milestone or success in any area
    • someone who has led or advocated for others to achieve a considerable outcome or advancement, or
    • someone who has achieved success or made a substantial contribution to empowering and developing others in the workplace or community.
  • Young Local Hero Award - recognises:
    • the great efforts of a young person aged between 12 and 25 years who is making a positive contribution to Georges River.

Judging process

Nominations will be reviewed by a judging panel of Georges River Council's Mayor, Georges River Council's General Manager, and a representative from Georges River Council's Access and Inclusion Reference Group.

Our judges will select a winner of each category to be announced at a morning tea on 1 December 2023. An invitation to this celebratory morning tea will be given to every eligible nominee.

Georges River Council invites you to nominate yourself or someone you know and have their contribution to Georges River Council recognised.
