The 2024-2025 Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee is looking for new members!

One in five Australians reports living with disability, including in the Georges River area. The 2021 census shows us that over 5.3% of the population (8,000 people) in the Georges River local government area reported needing help in their day-to-day lives due to disability.

Georges River Council is committed to creating a more inclusive community for all people who live, work and visit Georges River. This means ensuring all people with a disability and diverse needs have every opportunity to fully participate in and enjoy the social, business and community life of Georges River.

To better support the community, Council created an Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee (formerly the Access and Inclusion Reference Group). The role of the Committee is to provide feedback and advice to Council on its policies, plans and services to better support people with disability.

The Committee is voluntary and meets four times a year online, with in-person opportunities.

Membership will include, but is not limited to, people with disability, carers of a person with disability, representatives from local disability service providers, representatives from relevant government agencies and Council staff.

All members must live, work or engage in services within in Georges River area and meet at least one of these criteria:

  • Lived experience of a disability, and/or;
  • Lived experience as a carer, and/or;
