Consultation has concluded

In September 2016, Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) was appointed by Georges River Council to expand the application of the draft Hurstville Employment Lands Study to include land within the former Kogarah City Council LGA (now known as Blakehurst and Kogarah Bay Wards of the Georges River LGA).

The draft ELS was placed on exhibition from 1 May – 31 May 2017.

At its meeting on 7 August 2017, Council considered a report reviewing submissions on the draft ELS and providing criteria for the assessment of industrial lands.

The Report recommended that Council seek a peer review of the methodology, assessment and recommendations of the Industrial Precincts from a qualified consultant. This is to ensure that the assessment is sound and will allow Council to seek to have the study endorsed by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment. It will also provide Council with a consistent approach to the future protection of industrial lands across the Georges River LGA.

In accordance with the August 2017 resolution, SGS was commissioned by Council to undertake a peer review of the methodology, criteria and assessment of each of the industrial precincts, including the draft ELS and Council officers’ assessment framework.

SGS recommended additional studies to improve the methodology of assessing industrial lands and address the significant pressure on industrial land conversion, placing importance on rigorous rezoning assessment and adoption of the precautionary principle in line with directions from the Greater Sydney Commission (draft South District Plan).

SGS is currently undertaking the additional studies which will be publicly exhibited when completed.
